We
set out to build a better mirror cell to solve problems encountered with the
common edge support system sling design.
We
have developed a ridged edge support system designed to move with the mirror
during collimation adjustments.
To
make the entire support frame move with the mirror we moved the collimation
adjust from under the mirror to the corners of the mirror box. These changes
have several advantages.
1. Screws for adjustment are moved from under the mirror
allowing for a lower mirror setting.
2. Provides a rigid frame for more secure transport
3. Ridge edge support allows scope to track on an
equatorial platform without mirror shifting.
During colimation adjustments the mirror does not
move relative to it’s support points, eliminates issues with edge support
hanging up or dragging across the mirror.
